AI and We (The Homo Sapiens)
We talk a lot about AI these days — and why not? This is the epoch we inhabit. But if the cosmos permits me to be sagacious enough (whoooo whoooo), I am intimately enamored with the thought of AI and humans walking hand in hand.
It’s a veritable no‑brainer. As someone who has cherished writing since my nascent years — practically since I was an infant scribbling in primary school — I’ve often heard the refrain: “Did you write this using AI?” or more simply, “Anybody can conjure such verses with AI.”
Writing as a hobby can be a rather judgment‑laden enterprise, and I empathize with the stigma professional writers may have endured, facing vigilance and compliance around their oeuvre. Yet, after traversing the nuisance, I am confident these lines are more about personification, oxymorons, and metaphors — the very tropes of the AI age we are negotiating.
Humans cannot be dismissed as Johnny‑come‑latelys, arriving at the eleventh hour merely to adjudicate. This entire AI phenomenon is destined to perambulate hand in hand with humanity in the future.
In a world suffused with apprehension about AI, I aspire to inaugurate a series — on AI, humans, and ethics — blending lighter banter with profound dives into capabilities. So let the merriment commence, with a touch of perspicacity and panache.
Idioms in the air,
At the eleventh hour we dare,
Johnny-come-lately joins the show,
Sesquipedalian words overflow.
Quixotic dreams we chase tonight,
Precarious steps but hearts are light,
A flash in the pan, a wild goose chase,
Burning the midnight oil with grace.
LLMs humming, words they weave,
Agentic minds with tricks up their sleeve,
RAG retrieves from memory’s store,
Yet human hearts still matter more.
Compute and infra, heavy the load,
But human cost is a lighter road,
Scary or safe, the code may be,
Human spirit holds the key.
Spill the beans, don’t beat around,
Break the ice where love is found,
The ball’s in our court, don’t delay,
Make hay while the sun’s at play.
Between the devil and deep blue sea,
AI sails but humanity’s free,
Idioms dance, machines assist,
Yet human touch will still persist.
Regards,
Rachana Bahel
