✨ One Festival, Many Names — India’s Timeless Celebration ✨
Last year I wrote this poem, and the feeling remains the same even today. Because in truth, it is not many festivals — it is one celebration of harvest, joy, and togetherness, expressed in many names across our diverse land.
As someone quadrilingual (and aspiring to be a polyglot😅), I adore how our multilingual country mirrors this unity in diversity.
Lohri, Makar Sankranti, Pongal, Bihu, Uttarayan — each name carries the same heartbeat of gratitude and renewal.
And beyond culture, this festival holds scientific importance too: it marks the Sun’s movement into Capricorn (Makara Rashi), heralding longer days, the end of winter’s chill, and the beginning of a new agricultural cycle. 🌞🌾
🌸🔥🎶🎏
Here’s my poem India’s Festivals of Unity once again — because its message is timeless, and its spirit belongs to every year.
India's Festivals of Unity 🎉
From Jammu’s lands to Punjab’s plains,
My heart rejoiced in joy unchained.
Their warmth, their love, a sight so bright,
For Lohri's flame 🔥 lit up the night.
Peanuts 🥜 and lava cast in the fire,
As all souls danced 💃 in festive choir.
In Delhi’s lanes, through U.P.’s fields,
The buds had bloomed 🌸, the air was healed.
A sacred dip at Sangam’s shore 🌊,
In courtyards pure with dung once more.
On earthen stoves, khichdi stirred 🍲,
With curd and ghee, the feast conferred.
Then Assam called with nature’s song 🎶,
The cuckoo’s voice, the drums beat strong.
Cymbals echoed, colors flew 🎨,
In Bihu’s fields, the spirit grew.
In Gujarat’s sky, my kite soared high 🎏,
With winds of hope, it kissed the sky.
No bounds could hold the festive cheer,
For Uttarayan’s joy was here.
Let it fly free, with courage grand,
For victory waits in every hand ✨.
As South India beckons, don’t pass by,
Each festival lifts spirits high.
All deeds feel pure, all moments glow 🌅,
With Pongal’s dawn, new blessings flow.
In Maharashtra’s pride-filled air 🌄,
With sesame sweet, we joyfully share.
“Tilgul ghya,” we softly say,
As jaggery melts 🍯 and hearts convey.
On this warrior’s land, our spirits rise,
With peace 🕊️ and honor in our eyes.
So happy Makar Sankranti to all,
In every home 🏡 and village hall.
This is the finest unity,
Of diverse lands in harmony.
In every village, far and wide,
The earth is touched with festive pride.
Cow-dung courtyards, swings in fields,
A joyous warmth each province yields.
We speak many tongues, yet sing as one 🎵,
In Sankranti’s glow, beneath the sun ☀️.
This is the spirit of India true,
Where many colors form one hue.
Lohri, Pongal, Bihu’s grace,
Uttarayan’s kite-filled skies we trace.
Paush Sankranti and Khichdi's call,
Makar Sankranti—best wishes to all! 🌟🎊
